    The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [K(C3H3N2)(C12H24O6)], is composed of a potassium cation bonded to the six O atoms of a crown ether molecule and the two N atoms of a pyrazolate anion. The K...O distances range from 2.8416 (8) to 3.0025 (8) Å, and the two K...N distances are 2.7441 (11) and 2.7654 (11) Å. The K cation is displaced by 0.8437 (4) Å from the best plane through the six O atoms. The latter plane is almost perpendicular to the plane of the pyrazolate ring [dihedral angle 83.93 (3)°]. Key indicators: single-crystal X-ray study; T = 173 K; mean σ(C–C) = 0.002 A°; R factor = 0.026; wR factor = 0.066; data-to-parameter ratio = 16.5

    Crowdsourcing for Creating a Dataset for Training a Medication Chatbot

    To facilitate interaction with mobile health applications, chatbots are increasingly used. They realize the interaction as a dialog where users can ask questions and get answers from the chatbot. A big challenge is to create a comprehensive knowledge base comprising patterns and rules for representing possible user queries the chatbot has to understand and interpret. In this work, we assess how crowdsourcing can be used for generating examples of possible user queries for a medication chatbot. Within one week, the crowdworker generated 2'738 user questions. The examples provide a large variety of possible formulations and information needs. As a next step, these examples for user queries will be used to train our medication chatbot

    Comprehensible legal texts – utopia or a question of wording? On processing rephrased German court decisions

    This paper presents a study on the comprehensibility of rephrased syntactic structures in German court decisions. While there are a number of studies using psycholinguistic methods to investigate the comprehensibility of original legal texts, we are not aware of any study looking into the effect resolving complex structures has on the comprehensibility. Our study combines three methodological steps. First, we analyse an annotated corpus of court decisions, press releases and newspaper reports on these decisions in order to detect those complex structures in the decisions which distinguish them from the other text types. Secondly, these structures are rephrased into two increasingly simple versions. Finally, all versions are subjected to a self paced reading experiment. The findings suggest that rephrasing greatly enhances the comprehensibility for the lay reader

    Distinct patterns of mitochondrial genome diversity in bonobos (Pan paniscus) and humans

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>We have analyzed the complete mitochondrial genomes of 22 <it>Pan paniscus </it>(bonobo, pygmy chimpanzee) individuals to assess the detailed mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) phylogeny of this close relative of <it>Homo sapiens</it>.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We identified three major clades among bonobos that separated approximately 540,000 years ago, as suggested by Bayesian analysis. Incidentally, we discovered that the current reference sequence for bonobo likely is a hybrid of the mitochondrial genomes of two distant individuals. When comparing spectra of polymorphic mtDNA sites in bonobos and humans, we observed two major differences: (i) Of all 31 bonobo mtDNA homoplasies, i.e. nucleotide changes that occurred independently on separate branches of the phylogenetic tree, 13 were not homoplasic in humans. This indicates that at least a part of the unstable sites of the mitochondrial genome is species-specific and difficult to be explained on the basis of a mutational hotspot concept. (ii) A comparison of the ratios of non-synonymous to synonymous changes (<it>d</it><sub><it>N</it></sub><it>/d</it><sub><it>S</it></sub>) among polymorphic positions in bonobos and in 4902 <it>Homo sapiens </it>mitochondrial genomes revealed a remarkable difference in the strength of purifying selection in the mitochondrial genes of the F<sub>0</sub>F<sub>1</sub>-ATPase complex. While in bonobos this complex showed a similar low value as complexes I and IV, human haplogroups displayed 2.2 to 7.6 times increased <it>d</it><sub><it>N</it></sub><it>/d</it><sub><it>S </it></sub>ratios when compared to bonobos.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Some variants of mitochondrially encoded subunits of the ATPase complex in humans very likely decrease the efficiency of energy conversion leading to production of extra heat. Thus, we hypothesize that the species-specific release of evolutionary constraints for the mitochondrial genes of the proton-translocating ATPase is a consequence of altered heat homeostasis in modern humans.</p

The chapters in this volume are grounded in the latest research making this book useful to both experts of discourse studies and computational linguistics, as well as advanced students with an interest in these disciplines. We hope that this volume will serve as a catalyst to other researchers and will facilitate further advances in the development of cost-effective annotation procedures, the application of statistical techniques for the analysis of linguistic phenomena and the elaboration of new methods for data interpretation in multilingual corpus linguistics and machine translation
